John Ensminger is a tax lawyer and specialist in anti-money laundering programs for financial institutions. He has co-authored a treatise, Money Laundering, Terrorism and Financial Institutions, and writes a monthly newsletter, the USA PATRIOT Act Monitor. From 2005 to 2007, John was the Chair of the Banking & Savings Institutions Committee of the American Bar Association. He is a widely known and requested speaker on tax and financial issues, and has also written articles on mental patients' civil rights and a study on Christianity and Judaism in Rome at the time of Nero.
John owns Chloe, a labradoodle licensed as a therapy dog. John and Chloe visit hospice residents in a nursing home, special needs classes in an elementary school, and participate in a read-to-a-dog program at a library in Glendale, Arizona. John and his wife, Joan, live part of the year in Stone Ridge, New York (near Woodstock), and part in Phoenix, Arizona. John is a member of the Ulster Dog Training Club. While in law school, John edited The Complete Book of Dogs, by M.E. Ensminger, John's father. John is in the process of revising this popular book for a new generation of dog lovers.
